Journey To Soul

“A professor of history for over twenty years, it is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I say.... I have never experienced a history presentation as entertaining as Journey To  Soul. At one point, I was -actually- dancing in the isle.”

Journey To Soul is a musical and oral interpretation of the evolution of “soul music” from its slavery roots to its eventual expression as a popular form or style of black music.

The presentation is 90-minutes of eye opening history. It provides a unique opportunity for anyone to gain insight into the struggle of African Americans to survive the horrors of slavery, grow and prosper in a new and hostile land and acquire the dignity befitting any human being.

Journey To Soul begins, appropriately, with the music of Africa. The presentation takes the audience on a musical, educational and entertaining journey through time.

The presentation recreates -through words and music- the environment that formed the basis for soul music. It explains the significance of the “negro” spirituals, work songs, gospel music and rhythm and blues in the development of this powerful style of music. So much is offered by Journey To Soul that even the most discerning audience will get enough to be ecstatically satisfied.
“Exceptional presentation. The historical treatment could be likened to a crash course in African American history, but what was most impressive to me is the music; the singing will blow you away. Kamau is incredible!”
Dr. E. Simon

The music and songs of Journey To Soul flow smoothly and effortlessly from start to finish; each song reminding you of something forgotten or something to be remembered. From the drum beats of mother Africa to the call-and-response songs of saddened voices; from old spiritual and gospel tunes to the earliest songs of rhythm and blues, jazz, swing, doo wop, country and soul; Journey To Soul will present to its audience, the songs and circumstances that paved the way for the music we have come to know as SOUL.

Journey To Soul is ideal for most audiences. It is 90 minutes long and available to community groups, clubs, businesses, schools, colleges and universities. For booking and other information or to offer the presentation to your special group, Call: 941-421-8784 for booking and other information.
